This would be very useful to start off a new project. The complete list can be found under the Components tab, and all installed components will go in the Installed Tab. The Codekit author has listed a few selected packages under the Favorites tab. Go to the Assets menu (positioned at the left side of Server menu). In Codekit 2, you can now install Bower packages directly through it. There are a bunch of packages that you can find through the Bower registry including Bootstrap, jQuery, and Normalize.css. Bower is a package manager for web development - it is similar to Homebrew for OSX package manager. The second feature that we’re going to take a look at is the Bower Component. To change it, go to OSX System Preference > Sharing, then change the Computer Name to something shorter. So, if your computer name is “John Doe’s Macbook”, you will likely get a long address in return, something like. The nice-name-address format is derived from your computer name. So, you now have to serve your pages within the browser through this address, like so. There are two given address formats one with a nice name, and one with your network IP address format, which you can use in devices (most likely Android) that do not support Bonjour. ![]() You can use the address to access your project on any device within the same network. Click on it, and you will see the server information such as: the Port number, and the address to access your project through the server. When you launch it, you will notice a green light at the top right of the application window, showing that the server is “on”. In version 2, Codekit solves this by introducing a built-in server. This disrupts other activities you have running on other pages, because Codekit refreshed all opened pages. If you do not configure the settings properly, you could end up making Codekit refresh the page, including other pages that are not part of your project. For those of you who've just heard of it, Codekit Read more Built-in ServerĬodekit is able to automatically reload the page on the browser so as soon as you make a change within your project files, you will immediately see the result, giving you the experience of live editing.īut there is one problem in Codekit 1 that I had always encountered. So if I could add an entry to have it look for " /stylesheet.css" and then associate that string with something like " Heck I could probably even figure out how to do it if there was some sort of regex search/replace functionality.Codekit 2 was released a few weeks ago, and as expected, there are some big changes in this new version. I don't mind if the setup is fairly manual, either, because once it's set up I'd be good to go. ![]() ![]() So if there was some way to specify which remote CSS files you want to override with local versions during preview, that would be amazing. I have " " set as the "External Server Address." Then as I'm developing, I'm using the preview URL specified in CodeKit (which is in the case of the site I'm working on). This theme folder becomes my local CodeKit project. This would eliminate the step of me having to upload after every save and wait the full 3 seconds.Īdditional details about my setup: Basically I just have a local copy of the theme folder (which gets published to the directory of the remote WP site) - not the full site - just the theme. What I'd love to be able to do is have that remote website behave as normal but instead of using the remote CSS file, use the local CSS file that was just compiled by CodeKit. However, there's one glitch in my workflow: When I save the SASS file, I have to wait a second for it to process, and then I have to quick FTP it to the server before the browser refreshes (I've got it set at 3 seconds). I've got Browser Refreshing set up and I'm using the remote website as the "External Server Address." It works really well. I've got CodeKit 2 installed and am using it primarily to handle my theme SASS files. MAMP so that the client and I can be working in tandem. When I'm developing a WordPress site, I usually develop on a remote server vs.
